The New Orleans Hornets first came into the league as the Charlotte Hornets in 1988. Typical of an expansion team, the Hornets struggled in their first couple of years of existence. They did not make the playoffs till the 1992-93 season. The 1992-93 Hornets team was controlled by rookie Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson and Muggsy Bogues. The team beat the Boston Celtics in the 1st round but would lose to the New York Knicks in the second round. In spite of making the playoffs seven times, the Hornets attendance dropped until the team was moved to New Orleans in 2002.
